My best artwork this semester was the christmas ornaments that we made out of clay. I really liked them because they were a gift for my mom and the also turned out really good and how I planned them to. I could also customize them so that was really nice. The artwork I would like to redo is the one above, our representational artwork. I would like to redo it because it didn't really turn out how I planned it would and I wasn't too fond of how it looked.
I've learned from this art class that if you come up with a plan and work through it, most of the time you will be able to complete the artwork that you have been wanting to make. I wish that we could've done some regular drawing and painting, being I am more into that than 3D art. I might take another 2D class either my junior senior year.

My artwork is an A that is painted blue and has different words that mean something to me on it. The title of my artwork is "Abby's Life". My artwork is made from cups, paper tape, and tag board. The tools I used were just water and paint with the materials. My artwork does represent who I am as I person. It does this by having words on it that mean something to me. This piece helped me reach my goal as an artist because it turned out very much like I wanted it to. The final piece is what I imagined that it would be. This piece will influence my future artworks by making me push myself to make what I want and make it turn out how I want it to. Standards EvidenceTarget D~Art reflects life by people seeing the art and being changed by it. Life reflects art by people making art from what they see.
Target C~Personal beliefs are what one person believes. Values are what is important in your life to you. Behaviours are how you act because of something in your life. Target B~Most Minnesota American Indian artists create artwork that is saying something about them or their way of life. Target A~Frank Big Bear is a living, producing American Indian artist. Target A~I created a man out of clay who appears to be lounging and just relaxing. I learned that I had to change my idea in the middle of my work time. It didn't turn out the way I wanted it to.
Target B~I think my audience is towards people who like to lounge around and relax. I learned that it is actually really hard to pick an audience. Target C~i am not sure where I would put it, I think I am going to present it. I learned that you need a spot to relate to your artwork to put it. Target D~I presented my artwork in front of the class. I learned how to present my artworks. Target E~I thought about where I would put my sculpture and who my audience is. I learned that my audience is people who like to relax. My artwork looks like a person sitting back and relaxing. The title of my project is "Just Relax". This figure is made out of clay and I painted over it with black acrylic paint. It took a good week or two to get to the point in the process where it needed to be fired. I got my inspiration when I was thinking about what I like to do, I then decided to make a figure just sitting back and relaxing because I think it's really nice to just relax sometimes. I am trying to show relaxation in my project. My goal as an artist is to just always try my best and work until I get the artwork to where I want it to be. My final artwork is a little off from what I thought it was going to be but I still like it. This piece will influence my other artworks by seeing that I can make something if I really try at it. Also, if I can come up with it I can eventually make it.
When we did our clay unit I made a little pot and I am planning on giving it to my grandma as a christmas gift. It has a nice design on the outside and I think that she will like it, my guess is that she will use it as a candy jar.
We have now moved on to our figure sculptures. I am making a person who is sitting on the ground with their legs crossed over one another, and the arms are going to be sort of behind them propping themselves up. I am not sure on who my audience is for this figure/sculpture yet. I think that I am going to present it in front of the class rather than put it somewhere in the school to display it. Non-representational artist statementI think that this project was successful. I could have done a little better on the colors and dotting it, but other than that it looks good. I think that it completed the goal of not representing anything and just looking cool. If I could do things differently now, I would go back and change what materials I used to make it.
Learning TargetsTarget A~I asked Abry what colors would go together and what kinds of objects would look good for the project. I got that I should use black and white, and red and blue. I also used plastic cups, lids, jug covers, and plastic eggs.
Target B~I used the feedback that I got from Abry to make my project look better. I learned that it helps alot to get feedback from other people on you work. Target C~I used some of the colors and objects that Abry suggested. It helps to have someone who can help you decide on things. Target D~I am doing the project with the dots. I am also making it reflected with the colors and objects that I am using to make it. I learned that it is best to know what you want your project to be be. Target E~I had the problem of deciding what to use to secure my objects onto the platform. I learned that if you try using different glues you can see which one works best and then use that one. Target F~I solved the problem of which glue to use by myself. I tried all the glues and used the one that worked the best. Artist Statement~ArchitectureFor my architectural project I made a cabin. The title is "Grandpa's Cabin". I was inspired by an actual cabin that I go to in the summertime. For the roof of my cabin I painted a swingset of top of it, I did this because the actual cabin has a swingset on top of the roof. It is built deeper into the ground so the land overlaps the roof and my grandpa wanted to be funny so he put our swingset on the roof. I painted the outside walls blue and the floor and roof white. On the real cabin the walls are log cabin style and the floor and ceiling are also the hardwood log style. The tools and materials I used were cardboard, paint, glue, and an exacto knife. In my artwork I tried to show happiness, I did this because I am always happy when I go to the cabin. My goals as an artist are to just always try my best. This artwork sort of reached my goals because I did try my best but it could have been a little bit more accurate. During this artwork I learned that thinking about something to make and actually making it is a lot harder than I thought it would be. It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it to, but I still like it. Target EvidenceTarget A~ I looked at different artists and their sculptures. I learned that there are many different ways and materials to use to make an artwork.
Target B~ I started working off of my floor plan. I learned that it is easier to work off of a plan than out of your mind. Target C~ As I started working I am seeing how different materials work and cooperate with each other. I learned that different materials work differently. Target D~ I looked at different things. I learned that there are a lot of different kinds of artworks. Target E~ I tried to do things in different ways. I learned that there is more than one way to build the same thing. Target F~ I practiced by making a smaller object before the big thing. I learned that you should always practice something before trying to make the big and final artwork. Target A, Seeks out artists and artworks~I was going off of architects that build houses and other buildings. Artworks I was looking at were in ground houses, cabins, and many other buildings.
Target B, Documents inspiration and ideas~My inspiration came from a cabin I go to a lot. The roof had a painting of a swingset on it because, at the actual cabin the swingset is on top of the roof. The cabin is in the ground more than most normal places, so the roof is basically ground level. The cabin is really small and the only thing that is not accurate is the the cabin is brown and not blue. Target C, Make observations about subject, materials, or artwork~My artwork is pretty close looking to the real cabin, though the real one is brown and mine is blue. The materials I used were cardboard, paint, and glue. Target D, Explores new media and techniques~I tried different ways of building and using different materials. I also built something similar to my cabin, but out of different materials. Target E, Researches new skills and techniques~I used different ways to do the same thing. Also i played around with some different materials, or materials I liked, when I was done with my main project. Target F, Practices new skills~I practiced new skills by using different materials, building different kinds of sculptures, and thinking of new ways to copy one project but also make it different. I would do this by using different materials, different places, or maybe even a whole different sculpture inspired by this one sculpture. 1~I did the styrogami, floral foam, plaster, and cardboard. 2~I was surprised about the styrogami because I didn't think it would be as easy as it was to find spaces to fit in the extra pieces. I was surprised about the floral foam because I thought it would have been a lot easier to cut it and think of a design. The plaster didn't really surprise me because in my old school we used the plaster to make masks of ourselves. Lastly, the cardboard surprised me because it was a lot harder to glue together and make a house than I thought it would be. It kept falling a lot. 3~The materials I would use again are the plaster and cardboard. I would use them again because I enjoyed working with them the most. 4~The materials I probably wouldn't use again are the styrofoam and the floral foam. I wouldn't use them again because they were not that enjoyable for me, and they were somewhat harder to work with. |
